Storage and food-safety content follows these rules:
- Classification is mandatory. Every displayed duration carries one of four labels: safety guidance, best-quality guidance, manufacturer-controlled date, or personal planning date. A quality period may never be worded as a safety expiration, and vice versa.
- Sources attach to claims. Each substantive rule cites the official source that supports it, with jurisdiction and review date. Community anecdotes are never evidence for safety limits.
- Conservative failure states. When required facts (start event, temperature history, time out of refrigeration) are unknown, tools say what is missing and show the conservative official rule instead of guessing.
- Regional separation. US, EU, and UK guidance are never averaged. Where they differ, the applicable jurisdiction is named.
- Review before publication. Data-derived pages are published only after manual editorial review. Expert (food scientist / registered dietitian) review is part of the publication process for safety-relevant pages; pages state their actual review status and are not attributed to named experts until that review has occurred.
- Change tracking. Material changes are recorded in the change log; the method version appears in the footer of every page.
