Data download

The structured dataset behind the food pages and tools is published as JSON alongside the site:

  • foods.json — the 24 launch foods: storage rules per location with their safety/quality classification, freezing suitability and packaging guidance, thawing and refreezing rules, and the source attached to each record.
  • search-index.json — the page index used by the site search (titles, URLs, types).

Field meanings

Every duration record carries a classification — safety, quality, or manufacturer — and these are not interchangeable: a freezer figure classified quality must never be presented as an expiry or safety date downstream. Each record’s sources array names the official document supporting it. The data methodology page describes the full model.

Provenance and reuse

The figures summarize published guidance from US federal sources (USDA FSIS, FDA, FoodSafety.gov/FoodKeeper), which is in the public domain; the editorial structuring, condition notes, and classifications are this site’s work (method v1.1, 2026-08-21). If you reuse the dataset, keep the classifications and source attributions intact — republishing quality targets as “expiry dates” misrepresents both this site and the underlying sources.
