Your inventory and temperature log live only in this browser. Backups are how you protect them from cleared browser data, and how you move them between devices.
Exporting
- JSON (inventory page → “Export JSON”) — the complete backup: every field, including history and label IDs. This is the format to keep.
- CSV (“Export CSV”) — for spreadsheets. Columns:
name, storage, freezer, spot, qty, portions, frozen, stored, qualityMonths, useFirst, labelId, notes, status. - The temperature log exports its own CSV from the temperature log page.
Importing
The inventory’s “Import backup” button accepts both formats. JSON restores everything; CSV needs a header row containing at least a name column (the export’s own header works as-is — you can also build one in a spreadsheet to bulk-load a freezer). Items whose id already exists are skipped, so re-importing a backup never duplicates.
Moving to another device
Export JSON on the old device, transfer the file however you like, and import it on the new one. There is no sync in this version — the two devices are independent afterward.
Good habits
- Export JSON after any big batch-cooking session.
- Keep the file somewhere that survives this device (drive, email-to-self, backup folder).
- Before clearing browser data or switching browsers, export first — deletion is unrecoverable without a backup.
