Printing freezer labels

The label generator prints through your browser’s normal print dialog. A few settings make the difference between a crisp label and a wasted page.

Single label vs sheet

Print label prints one label; Print sheet tiles eight copies of the same label — right for batch cooking, where every portion gets the same label. For several different labels, print each one, or use Copy as text and a marker.

Print settings that matter

  • Set margins to “Default” and scale to 100% — “fit to page” can shrink the sheet grid unevenly.
  • Background graphics are not needed; the label prints with black borders by design, so it photocopies and prints well even on draft quality.
  • For adhesive label paper, do a plain-paper test page first and hold it against the label sheet.

What survives the freezer

Plain paper + packing tape over the whole label is the cheap reliable option: the tape waterproofs it. Permanent marker on the bag works but smudges on frost. Ballpoint fails cold; pencil survives it. Masking tape gets brittle below −10 °C — freezer tape or a taped-over paper label lasts longer.

The ID code

The short code (e.g. L-7K2M) printed on the label links the package to its record: search the inventory for the code on the package you’re holding. The code is generated locally and means nothing outside your own browser.
